Go On Pursuing: A Photographic Essay On Aging
There is only one solution if old age is not to be a parody of our former life, and that is to go on pursuing ends that give our existence a meaning.
Simone De Beauvoir, The Coming Of Age
One of the ultimate “facts of life,” aging is a universal process that all communities, no matter how diverse, participate in. This element of our shared condition makes us aware that we possess a particular dignity as humans, one that cannot be made an abstraction to fear, mistrust or hate.
My project, “Go On Pursuing,” will include portraits of men and women 55 years and older, drawn from different socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds. The photo series intends to cast its eye over the physical reality of aging, searching for wonder and respect in this alteration that is so fundamental to us all.
